The Ministry of Women Affairs is in preparation for the Upskill Women Empowerment Programme after the first round of the screening of applicants across the 25 Local Government Areas of the State. This programme is first of its kind in the Ministry as it is designed to to uplift the lives of the indigent women who have acquired vocational skills but yet to be established as a result of financial setback. It is also a programme targeted to help cushion the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic that has greatly affected the economy of the society.
The programme will retrain and empower women who have acquired skills in vocation such as Fashion Design, Hairdressing, Decoration, Makeover and Confectioneries. This persons after the retraining exercise will be given start-up packs to enable them set-up their own businesses and become self reliant.
This development is in line with the SMART Agenda of the Okowa led administration which is targeted at Wealth Creation and Prosperity for All Deltans. The amiable Governor is keeping to his promises. The Upskill is the first phase of the Women Empowerment Programme as the Second phase will kick-off immediately at the completion of this phase. The second phase is a vocational skills acquisition programme for unskilled women who will be selected across the state, trained and empowered as well.
It is believed this programmes will greatly reduce the impact of poverty and grow the economy of the state.
