The October 1st 2020 Independence Day Celebration tagged ‘Together Nigeria at 60’ was commemorated in Delta State with a Thanksgiving Interdenominational Service preceding the event which held at the Government House Chapel, Asaba.  In attendance at the service were the Executive Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Sen. (Dr.) Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, the Deputy Governor, Dcn Kingsley B. Otuaro Esq,  the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs, Community and Social Development Mrs. Flora Alatan and Members of the State Executive Council.  Also present in the service were other top government functionaries.

The Independence Day Celebration which took place at the Cenotaph ground Asaba, was a colourful event graced by dignitaries from far and wide.  In attendance was senator representing Delta South Senatorial District in the green chambers, Sen. James Manager, the Secretary to the Delta State Government, Chiedu Ebie Esq., Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Royal Fathers, Honourable Commissioners, Honourable Members of the Delta state House of Assembly, Chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party and other dignitaries.

The Deputy Governor, Dcn. Kingsley Burutu Otuaro who represented the Governor, His Excellency, Sen. (Dr.) Arthur Ifenyi Okowa, inspected the Guard of Honour before the commencement of the parade by the Military, Paramilitary, Local Government Representatives, People With Disabilities, Civil Groups and the host Ministry of Women Affairs, Community and Social Development led by the Honourable Commissioner, Mrs. Flora Alatan and the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry, Mrs. Oghenekevwe Agas.

In his address, His Excellency encouraged Deltans not to relent in the process of nation building pointing out the significance of this year’s 2020 independence celebration, Nigeria at 60.  He further highlighted the numerous achievements of his administration especially in the area of wealth creation were thousands of youth have been trained and empowered in various vocational and technical skills to become self reliant with the numbers still counting.

He enjoined Deltans to continue to support his administration as he promised that his administration would not relent in making giant strides towards development and service delivery.

The successful celebration of Nigeria at 60 in Delta State organized by the state government through the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community and Social Development was quite a remarkable achievement, especially amidst the Covid-19 pandemic setback.  Delta state has recorded a very successful and exemplary Independence Celebration and will definitely and effectively organize many more Independence Celebration.
